MOTQ: Jenn Aponte
Q: When did you first hear about CrossFit and how did you get started?
First heard about it through some friends at work. I tagged along on a workout and the rest is history!
Q: Why did you stick with it?
I’ve always loved working out, but enjoyed that I didn’t have to think about programming. I just had to show up! Variety is also important to me and I’ve never gotten bored with CrossFit. I also thrive with the group atmosphere because whenever I want to quit during a class, all I have to do is look around and see everyone else getting through it. And the music! I love a good playlist blasting….makes me feel like I’m back in the clubs again!
Q: What do you enjoy most about Bell City CrossFit?
The welcoming atmosphere. The coaches and the members genuinely care and uplift each other. I don’t have family in CT and I only moved out here because of work. Bell City became my outlet for all the outside stress. During the lockdown, Bell City Zoom became the only thing I looked forward to each day and having other people to connect with at that time was a blessing.
Q: Most and least favorite lift?
Back squats are my favorite because I feel the strongest. Least…pull-ups or anything gymnastic-y because I can’t do them (and I don’t like my hands ripping 😌).
Q. What do you train for?
Mental and physical health. And yea, maybe the dream of one day getting my old body back and working out in that cutoff shirt!
Q: What is your greatest CrossFit success story?
There have been many as I’m always encouraged to push myself past what I think I can do. But, I will never forget the day I RX’d my first workout!
Q: What do you do for work?
Too much! In a nutshell, I’m a Content Producer and work on live game action for ESPN.
Q: What do you do for fun with you’re not at the gym?
Travel. If I’m not doing it for work, I enjoy finding new places to explore on my own.
Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in CrossFit, but not sure it’s the right fit for them?
Just give it a chance. It might feel uncomfortable or you might feel like you can’t do it but just get a good sweat in and have fun!
Q: Favorite breakfast meal?
Depends on the mood…sometimes I’m all for an omelet and home fries and sometimes I crave a pancake or waffle. These are cheat meals of course lol!
Congratulations Jenn, and thank you for sharing your story!
When you see Jenn at Bell City, be sure to give her a high-five and congratulate her!!!
