Q: When did you first hear about CrossFit and how did you get started?
Right after I graduated college 10 years ago, I heard about it from a friend and decided to give it a shot. The first time I walked into Bell City I was convinced it wouldn’t be for me and was way too intense. After the first week I knew I was hooked and would never go back to another type of gym.
Q: Why did you stick with it?
The ability to make progress both in the gym with new skills and the confidence it helps you build in your body is great for people inside and out of the gym. Once I saw those types of benefits, I knew I was staying around.
Q: What do you enjoy most about Bell City CrossFit?
The community is by far the most supportive and fun group I have ever had the pleasure of getting to know. I’ve done night classes for a long time and now morning classes and have always felt welcomed. Becca and I have been to a bunch of weddings from the gym and had many gym members at our wedding! That kind of community is incredible and helps make all your goals more achievable.
Q: Most and least favorite lift?
Overhead squats and deadlifts are by far my favorites. I could do with never having to do another Thruster ever again.
Q. What do you train for?
A lot of reasons, but I primarily got back into the gym this past 6 months so I could keep up with my little ones and stay in good shape to help set a good example for them as they grow up.
Q: What is your greatest CrossFit success story?
It would have to revolve around open season. Both as an athlete and a coach I’ve got to help people get there first DU, C2B, MU or hit new weights they/I never thought possible. Too many to pick a specific one, but my first muscle up was an incredible feeling.
Q: What do you do for work?
I’m a Product Manager at MacDermid Alpha Electronic Solutions. I work on a specific product line used to make circuit boards conductive in the right way. The chemical baths we create and sell allow our customers like Apple, SpaceX, Intel make the cutting-edge technology that we all use in our daily lives.
Q: What do you do for fun with you’re not at the gym?
It seems all we have time for these days is to keep our kids busy and entertained but Becca and I also enjoy hiking a lot and watching football. We also read a ton, and when I have time, I like to play videogames.
Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in CrossFit, but not sure it’s the right fit for them?
There is never a perfect time to do anything, but stepping out of your comfort zone and trying out CrossFit for the first time is worth it. It’s a supportive community that’s scalable to all fitness levels and can help anyone feel comfortable with trying out working out in a gym for the first time.
Q: Favorite breakfast meal?
Cheat meal? Cinnabon pancakes from IHOP. For a healthier meal I like some plain scrambled eggs with peppers along with some sausage.
