Q: When did you first hear about CrossFit and how did you get started?
It must have been around 2019 at my old gym where we did boot camp style workout classes, but back then I didn't pursue it any further. 2021 was when I was starting to look into new gyms in the Bristol area. I saw posts from Kris and Kaitlyn Delvalle, which I knew from my old gym. Shortly after, I reached out to Bell City and came in for the fundamentals.
Q: Why did you stick with it?
The reason is literally the definition of CrossFit. Constantly varied functional movements at high intensity. We pretty much never do the same things twice, so things never get boring. On the other hand, it is the community feeling and shared values.
Q: What do you enjoy most about Bell City CrossFit?
It's the fact that coaches and members actually care about each other.
Q: Most and least favorite lift?
My favorite lift is the squat in various variations, as it works many different muscle groups and joints. My least favorite movement would be the Lunge. It's one of the movements I get sore for days, no matter the volume. lol
Q. What do you train for?
I would say just overall fitness and mobility. I recently saw a quote that said: "I do CrossFit to stay out of a retirement home as long as possible and be independent." Even though I'm too young to think about retirement, it's never too early to lay out the fundamentals.
Q: What is your greatest CrossFit success story?
That would be the fact of figuring out a new movement for each of the last to Opens. It was the Wall-walk in 2022 and TTB in 2023.
Q: What do you do for work?
I work for TRUMPF in Farmington, where I'm responsible for a team of technicians, which is supporting our customers and field engineers for remote troubleshooting and repairs. I've been with the company for almost 18 years now and 6 of these are here in the US.
Q: What do you do for fun with you’re not at the gym?
My wife and I love to travel, we just came back from vacation in Germany, where we visited family and friends. Due to the nature of my job, I'm looking at computer screens all day, so on my time off work I like to read and just enjoy a good book.
Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in CrossFit, but not sure it’s the right fit for them?
Don't get intimidated by social media posts about crazy fit CrossFitters, most of us are just "normal" people, trying to improve ourselves and getting or staying healthy.
Don't worry about your fitness level. You start CrossFit because you want to get fit not because you're fit.
Q: Favorite breakfast meal?
My favorite is Overnight Oats. I have it every day and still love it. (Oats, Chia Seeds, Cinnamon, Protein Powder, Maple Syrup, Greek Yoghurt and Milk - mix it all together, let it sit overnight and add fresh fruit in the morning).
Congratulations David, and thank you for sharing your story!
When you see David at Bell City, be sure to give him a high-five and congratulate him!!!
