Q: When did you first hear about CrossFit and how did you get started?

I first heard about CrossFit in 2012 when I moved back home from college and started working at ESPN. I would use their “Wellness Center” and they even started hosting classes there, but I had a very anti-CrossFit attitude. I got started in 2014 when I went into the Police Academy in Milford. One of our drill instructors owns CrossFit HCC in North Haven so he built the physical training program around CrossFit.

Q: Why did you stick with it?

Basically, through the academy it was forced on me, but I ended up loving it and it put me in the best shape of my life. I would not be in the shape I am if I went back to whatever I was doing before.

Q: What do you enjoy most about Bell City CrossFit?

The atmosphere and the people. I never felt out of place or overwhelmed when I came here.

Q: Most and least favorite lift?

My most favorite are squat cleans, my least favorite are wall balls.

Q. What do you train for?

I train to stay healthy, it’s a plus when I PR any lifts or workouts.

Q: What is your greatest CrossFit success story?

When I hit 200 pounds for back squat and 100 pounds for squat snatch, I consider those my “break throughs” a couple years ago.

Q: What do you do for work?

I am a Detective assigned to the Crime Scene Unit in Hamden.

Q: What do you do for fun with you’re not at the gym?

I love any chance I get to travel, but when I’m home I love a good brewery or going out with my friends anywhere for drinks and live music.

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in CrossFit, but not sure it’s the right fit for them?

That they have to try it, the hardest part is just showing up.

Q: Favorite breakfast meal?

I’ve been working on my nutrition with Coach Nickie and thankfully she didn’t even have to change my breakfast! I eat the same thing every day, egg with egg whites and a piece of cheese, mixed fruit, and toast with peanut butter.
